Interview with Camiral Resort CEO David Plana.
Tell us about the latest developments at Camiral Resort.
“The opening of Hotel Camiral this summer followed an investment programme which started in 2010 with an extensive upgrade to the Stadium Course. We have now started a new investment phase. In fact, creating a new hotel is the first element of a €53 million, three-year development plan, which will help us realise our vision of becoming Europe’s leading luxury lifestyle resort.
“The hotel has already received outstanding reviews. Guests are especially impressed with the interior, which is the vision of renowned designer Lázaro Rosa-Violán, and the five-star customer service. The area around the pool and the 1477 Restaurant are favourites among guests; everyone loves spending time there.
“By the way, did you know 1477 is the date of the oldest Catalan cook book still in existence? It’s a nice way to remind guests that gastronomy and good food is engrained in the Costa Brava region.”
What else is happening?
“We want families to be at the heart of life at Camiral Resort and the new Kids’ Club has opened this summer, with plenty of entertainment, sports and fun workshops for our younger guests.”
“We are currently developing new sports amenities including an equestrian centre, as well as football and rugby training facilities, which will be operational in 2017. Our landmark leisure amenity – and the final element of our three-year plan – will be a large recreational lake, opening in 2018, which will become a hub for water sports and will include a beach and lakeside club, with additional dining options.
“I’m also pleased to say we will create our own vineyard, we have opened a kitchen garden this summer and will be opening a new Deli in the next few weeks.”
Clearly, the residential community continues to take shape, too.
“Since the low-density development first took shape in 2011, we have seemingly defied market trends and, to date, have sold 175 out of the 368 units planned.
“However this hasn’t been by chance. It is the result of a lot of hard work, imagination and determination, as well as very cleverly formulated strategies that capitalised on our location and reputation for world class golf. We recognised early on that the appeal of a venue was intrinsically based on a prospective resident’s lifestyle choice. So we looked to sell the ‘whole package’, appealing to golfers and non-golfers’ alike.
“While golf and our golf courses will always be central to the resort – we are a European Tour Destination and the Stadium Course remains the number one golf course in Spain – the creation of additional sports and leisure facilities through our €53 million three-year plan will deliver a whole host of amenities and services that will make Camiral Resort Europe’s leading luxury lifestyle resort.”
