Camiral’s Stadium Course is voted 86th in the World’s Top Golf Courses
The stadium course at Camiral was, this month, voted as the 86th best golf course in the world by the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World Website, the only independent website dedicated exclusively to the best golf courses in the world.
The judging panel is made up of a collection of passionate golfers with mixed handicaps and a mutual love of the game and the main aim behind the set up of the website was to connect other avid golfers from all over the world with the best courses available to them.
In order to assign each course a ranking, each one is assessed according to data collated from other publications and websites who position courses according to, for example, design visual appeal, quality and condition of the course. This information is collected by the team, along with reviews and information generated from other visitors to the course who donate opinions to the website
The courses are then further analysed by the team at Top Golf Courses in the World according to four criteria:
1) Number of times a Golf Course has appeared on a ranking table
2) Weighted in favour of courses appearing in the World ranking
3) Weighted in favour of courses appearing most recently in any ranking table
4) Analysed by the team of golfers at Top 100 Golf Courses in the World
Along with this there is also a chance for other golfers who have played the various courses to rank them depending on how they felt the course was for them, therefore taking into account location, condition and difficulty. Expert opinion is also included on the golf courses being reviewed. All of this information is then brought together to create the ranking.
Camiral’s reaction to their ranking:
“We are honoured to be included in such a prestigious list of golf courses, and appreciate our position among a relatively small number of courses in Continental Europe to make the highest grade,” said Camiral Resort CEO Billy O’Sullivan.
“Significant ongoing investment is being made at Camiral Resort, including the upgrade of the Stadium Course earlier this year, to make it one of the finest golf, resort and residential communities in the world, and it is gratifying to be recognised for the work we are doing.”
The stadium course at Camiral Golf & Wellness, ranked 86th, is both spectacular and imposing which has resulted in it consistently been ranked highly as one of the best courses in Europe. Professionals have praised it as the host of the PGA European Circuit tournament which has done much to increase its profile. Yet golfers must not be deceived by the aesthetics, there are many dangers waiting to affect the game and handicaps will certainly be put to the test here. Trees planted close to fairways, strategically placed bunkers and lakes appearing on seven of the most challenging holes are just some of the trials that are faced during a round of the course. It is these tests that keep golfers coming back year after year and help put the course on the map as a must play. Recently, as part of the continuous upgrading of the course, the grass was switched from a bentgrass to a Bermuda bed overseeded with ryegrass which is the same formula used by the Augusta National for The Masters Tournament
