Camiral Resort’s ladies-only coaching sessions were started by Head Coach, Enric Lopez, in 2011 with a few female golfers. The group has since developed and now has a core of 10 ladies who have improved their handicaps from 30 to between 11 and 26.
“The idea behind the ladies-only lessons was to address some of the specific aspects raised by female golfers, such as flexible playing options, access to facilities and coaching opportunities,” commented Enric.
“Although golf enjoys a much higher proportion of female members than other leading Spanish sports such as football or basketball – currently over 30% – there is still a way to go before we can reach a more equal split.”
Each year however, the group has seen its numbers increase. “This year, we have welcomed a couple of new players who have quickly taken to the lessons and the social atmosphere we promote during – and after – the sessions, which has included leisurely, post-lesson lunches, charitable events organised by the players and an annual Christmas dinner,” added Enric.
“The relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere of Camiral Resort means we are ideally suited to meet the requirements of female golfers and get them more involved in the game; while the more competitive players have used the lessons and our award-winning facilities to hone their skills, reduce their handicaps and compete in – and win – some of the regional tournaments.
Whatever your aim though, we believe we can attract more newcomers to join and encourage more people to enjoy golf,” he concluded.
The two-hour, ladies-only lessons take place every other Monday at Camiral Resort’s Academy next to the newly extended driving range.
