Summer in beautiful Barcelona heralds one of the busiest periods in the life of the city, with the streets coming alive with festivals and celebrations. The city has hosted events such as Sonar festival and Primavera Sound festival already this summer, yet the fun doesn’t stop there…
Running into its 36th year, the Barcelona GREC festival will take place from June 30th to July 31st and is the largest annual dance, theatre and circus festival in Catalunya. Taking place at the original Teatre Grec amphitheatre on the foothills of Montjuïc and at various other outdoor locations, the event will showcase some of the most impressive theatrical acts in the country and is sure to make for a fantastic day out.
There is an incredible variety of acts on offer this year with musicians, actors, theatre and dance groups coming from all over the world to perform. Highlights of the Festival Grec Programme for this year include La Troba Kung-Fu, which will kick off the festival with a fusion of flamenco, reggae and ska at the hand of the aerial visual theatre group Theatre Tol, the urban concierto concepto breakdance and music set and the Pedalejant Capal Cel (‘Pedalling up to the Sky’) visual theatre group, who provides a mixture of poetry and aerial entertainment.
What’s more, this year the acts will be basing themselves around a ‘circus’ theme, making this a fun event to be enjoyed by all age-groups.
This is a ‘must see’ event in Barcelona and will, without doubt, get everyone talking. Let us know if Festival Grec 2012 gives you anything to say!
