This spring visitors escaping to the idyllic Spanish region of the Costa Brava will be offered the chance to celebrate the area’s great culinary traditions at its critically acclaimed Michelin-starred restaurants. Girona Gastronomy Week will take place from the 15th March to the 1st April where celebrated restaurants will tee up some tasty dishes for visitors wanting to escape the cold weather and sample both some classic Catalan cuisine and the region’s popular Empordà wines.
The Costa Brava and Barcelona offer the highest concentration of Michelin-starred restaurants in Spain including El Celler de Can Roca, Massana and El Bulli. Gastronomy Week is an event intended to promote the region of Girona and has managed to maintain a high level of participation in previous years where visitors and locals stop at various establishments and sample different menus on offer.
Since 2007, Girona Gastronomy Week has widened the event by celebrating cinema too, combining films that are related to the world of gastronomy. The event brings together the culinary traditions of the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean further enhancing the Catalonian concept of “mar I muntanya” (sea and mountains).
