Veteran hotelier David Salomon joins us from the Ritz Carlton Berlin, having built an illustrious career at some of the world’s finest hotels including the Mandarin Oriental, Barcelona; Claridges, London and the Peninsula, Bangkok. Here he lets us in on a few trade secrets and what he has lined up for 2018.
Lifeatpga: What are the three most important things you have learned about running a successful hotel?
DS: Your employees are the essence of your brand. They are the people who bring the hotel to life. Look after them and they’ll look after you. Innovation is key to remaining competitive and you should be striving for it not just in the long term, but every single day. Finally, never forget why you are here: in the end it’s all about your guests.
Lifeatpga: What are the three key changes you will bring to the Camiral Resort in 2018?
DS: We’re going to be developing our food and beverage experiences into something more fun and dynamic so look out for pop-ups and other promotions throughout the year. We’ll be tying our experiences and activities more closely to the inherent natural beauty of the surrounding area. And, last, but my no means least, we’re aiming to position the Hotel Camiral as the premier luxury resort hotel in Catalonia.
Lifeatpga: As a first time visitor to the Hotel Camiral what are the two things you must do while you are here?
DS: First, take the time to enjoy the design of this unique hotel and resort. From interiors by celebrated Catalan designer Lázaro Rosa-Violán, to our natural surrounds that encompass running and cycling trails through woodland, lakes and more recently vineyards. Second, explore the surrounding region and discover beautiful old towns like Tossa de Mar. Located about 30-minutes drive from the resort it has beautiful secluded beaches like Cala Pola as well as a lovely old town – the Vila Vella – where you can loose yourself among the cobblestone streets and pretty stone houses bedecked with geraniums. Have lunch over looking the sea at Tapas del Mar.
