Camiral Resort hosted Spanish footballing greats during the Nacex Golf and Paddle Challenge 2012, which saw former FC Barcelona and Real Madrid players come together for a good cause.
Just a couple of days before the iconic El Clásico football match on April 21, 2012, this year’s charity event took place at Spain’s No.1 golf course, which saw Spanish football veterans, including Real Madrid’s Bernd Schuster and FC Barcelona’s Miguel Àngel Nadal, go head-to-head in a Stableford match-play tournament.
This was won by the Real Madrid team, with its ex-president Ramon Calderón and former players Jose Martinez “Pirri”, Santi Aragon, San Jose Isidoro, Alfonso Perez, Francisco Pavon and Miguel Angel Ferrer ‘Mista’ comfortably beating their Barcelona rivals – Michael Reiziger, Txiki Begiristain, Alexanco, Santi Ezquerro, Marcos Alonso and Jose Maria Minguella.
The paddle challenge saw the FC Barcelona team redress the balance with the Catalan duo of Angel Cuellar and Christopher Parralo claiming victory for Barca and their teammates – Charly Reixach, Sergi Barjuan, Felip Chapi Ferrer and Ortiz. Dani Garcia and Andres Sabido were among those reprensenting Real Madrid. The best player of each team has been awarded an annual membership at Camiral Resort, with unlimited access to Spain’s best golf course. The lucky pair will also be able to take advantage of the resort’s state-of-the-art sporting facilities, which include a new 2,000sqm practice green, an upgraded driving range and its soon-to-be opened residential club that will boast a fully-equipped gym, spa rooms and raquet courts.
As is tradition with Nacex Golf and Paddle Challenge events, all proceeds go to a humanitarian aid project to help children in a Masai Mara village in Kenya. In conjunction with the benevolent campaign Juntos X África (Together X Africa) – part of La Caixa Welfare Projects, led by Spain’s leading savings bank and the third largest financial entity in the country – that also involves FC Barcelona and Real Madrid’s charity foundations, former players lend their image to promote and support the campaign, as well as maximise the initiative’s awareness.
