Here at Camiral we are getting all geared up for the next world-class golf event, the Singapore Open, which starts November 7th.

Initially founded in 1961, the tournament took place annually until 2001 when the organizers decided to take a temporary break due to sponsorship difficulties.  However, since its return in 2005 the Singapore Open has successfully re-established itself as one of the leading events on the golfing calendar. 

Pre hiatus, the tournament attracted premier golfers from around the world, and past winners include Thaworn Wiratchant and Shaun Micheel, who went on to win the 2003 PGA Championship.  The participants have become even more high-profile after the tournament’s come-back in 2005, and golfers such as Adam Scott, Ian Poulter and Angel Cabrera have triumphed in recent years.

The big players are not only lured to Singapore by the ever-increasing prize money (since announcing a sponsorship deal with Barclays in 2006, the winnings are now $6 million), but also by the superior courses available.

The Serapong course, situated on the popular island of Sentosa, went under a major redesign in 2007 and, thanks to the Bates Golf Design Group, was awarded the ‘Best Golf Course in Singapore’ in 2009 Golf Digest Singapore awards. The course still features its trademark mound, contours and stunning lakes, but now incorporates ground-breaking SubAir and PermOPore greens maintenance technology.

The Tanjong course was first opened in 1972 to much acclaim and is still considered one of the best designed Singaporean greens. Known for its breathtaking scenery as well as its golf, Tanjong features freshwater lakes, towering trees and is set against the alluring South China Sea backdrop.

The tournament runs from 7th November – 17th November, and the standard prices for tickets are: $20 (approx £12) – Thursday and Friday, $50 (aprrox £31) – Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free for children aged below 18 years old. Golf lovers should also note that if you buy 10 tickets or more you get a 10% discount.
